Were are just ONE day away from our live event: Caritas & Veritas Continuing the Journey!!!

And, we continue to celebrate MaDonna Thelen!

Erika Corona, graduate of Dominican University, shares with us a final refection on the impact that Madonna has had in her life, even beyond her undergraduate career:

"In 2004, I had the pleasure of meeting MaDonna Thelen while I was in college. MaDonna hired me as one of her first Service Learning Student Coordinators. In that role our mighty office worked hard to match college students with organizations in the Austin neighborhood, Lawndale, Back of the Yards and many other underserved communities in Southwest side of Chicago. Our work in that office did not stop there, under MaDonna’s leadership our office created service opportunities that expanded to serve at a global level.

MaDonna was and continues to be one of the people I aspire to be. Her passion to put others before herself is a testament to the type of person she is. While in college, I was conflicted about going out into the world to become a change maker in the corporate world or follow the world of nonprofit to serve others.

MaDonna reminded me to find a job that gave me purpose every day. The mission of my alma mater is “Pursue truth, to give compassionate service, and to participate in the creation of a more just and humane world.”

MaDonna without a doubt influenced my career path. For 8 years, I worked for an amazing organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago. There I worked with amazing colleagues to bring mentoring programs to under served communities. As I transitioned to my work in Economic Development, specifically working within the Chamber Division with small businesses, I still had MaDonna influencing my path. My work with small businesses is to help provide answers, to empower and give a voice to these community champions.

MaDonna, thank you for being an amazing force for social change and for building bridges for communities to work together. From helping to build my career in social justice, to officiating our wedding to enjoying an occasional dinner… this woman is amazing Social Justice leader that I am honored to call a friend."
