I would like to introduce myself, Margaret Gorman, as the Executive Director of Dominican Volunteers USA. Let me begin by saying that life is not always a straight path. Oftentimes it's difficult to know what your destination is while on the journey. My path to DVUSA has not been straight, but I know that it was meant to be my destination. I was raised and educated in Catholic schools, first attending a Dominican grammar school, St. Bernadette in Evergreen Park, IL. I continued on to St. Ignatius College Prep for high school and then to Loyola University New Orleans for college.

When I graduated college with a degree in political science, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I continued working at my summer job until someone suggested I consider veterinary medicine. While initially I discarded it, the idea continued to grow, and I enrolled in a veterinary technology program. Completing that degree then led me to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. I began in an entry-level position at the Midwest Office and earned my stripes working in just about every department at levels of increasing responsibility. During my tenure at the ASPCA, I realized that my passion was facilitating others and organizations to achieve their highest goals. This realization drove me to pursue a master's degree in philanthropic studies from Indiana University, which I completed in January of 2013.

While I was happy at the ASPCA for many years, something was telling me it was time to move on. My husband and I had the opportunity to return to Chicago, and we leapt at the chance. I began immersing myself in the Chicago nonprofit sector by volunteering as I looked for a full time position. When I was offered the Executive Director position at Dominican Volunteers USA, I was beyond excited. I realized that my life had been leading up to this. I see this as an opportunity to give back to the religion that has shaped who I have became and has driven me into a career of service. I've been at DVUSA for only a short time, and I feel at home. My path has not been straight, but it has led me to Dominican Volunteers USA. I look forward to working with you!
